Why red will be everywhere next season

Last month during my buying trip to Paris I loved how red was part of the main colours for summer fashion. It felt fresh, confident and impossible to ignore. I came home knowing that red had to be part of the next Volange collection.

Why red always makes an impact

Red is a strong colour, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel difficult to wear. In fact, it can be one of the easiest ways to bring new life to the clothes you already own.

A beautiful red blouse can completely transform your favourite jeans. A red knit can make a simple outfit feel more modern. Even a small red accessory can give a neutral look more personality.

Red also has a wonderful energy. It feels confident, feminine and joyful. It makes you stand a little taller and brings warmth to an outfit without needing lots of styling.

Unlike some trends that disappear after one season, red is timeless. French women have always worn it—sometimes boldly, sometimes as just one carefully chosen detail. It has the elegance of a classic colour, but it still feels exciting.

Finding the right red

There are many different shades of red, and the secret is finding the one that makes you feel good.

The best way to choose is simply to hold the colour close to your face. The right red should brighten your complexion and make you feel instantly more alive.

How to wear red

If you’re not used to wearing strong colour, start by making red the hero of an otherwise simple outfit.

Wear red with denim

This is probably my favourite combination. A feminine red blouse worn with dark or mid-blue denim feels effortless and very French. Add a simple loafer, ballet flat or ankle boot, and the outfit is complete.

Pair it with white or cream

Red looks beautiful with softer neutrals. Try a red top with off-white jeans, a cream skirt or a light jacket. The contrast feels fresh, elegant and perfect for spring.

Try red with navy

Navy softens red and gives it a timeless quality. This combination has a distinctly French feeling and works particularly well with stripes, denim and classic tailoring.

Start with an accessory

If a red blouse or knit feels like too much, begin with a bracelet, scarf, bag or pair of shoes. A small touch of red is enough to lift a neutral outfit and make it feel more considered.

Let red do the work

When you wear red, you don’t need to add too much else. Keep your jewellery simple, choose familiar pieces from your wardrobe and let the colour be the focus. For me, this is exactly what getting dressed should be about: choosing pieces that make you feel confident, adding something that brings you joy, and keeping the rest simple.

I hope it inspires you to introduce a little red into your wardrobe and discover just how uplifting this beautiful colour can be.

A bientôt, Prune xx
