Bleu - The Colour French Women Always turn to

At Volange, no matter the season or the trends of the moment, you'll always find shades of blue throughout my collections. From soft chambray blouses and perfectly cut denim to cosy navy knitwear, it's a colour I return to year after year.

Timeless, versatile and effortlessly chic, blue  has a way of making every outfit feel polished without trying too hard. Perhaps that's why it remains such a staple in French wardrobes, especially during winter.

Perhaps it's because blue feels more approachable than black. Softer. Less severe. Or perhaps it's because it pairs beautifully with almost everything already hanging in a wardrobe. Whatever the reason, blue has become one of the foundations of French dressing.

This season, I've found myself drawn to these shades once again. From feminine blouses to cosy knitwear and beautifully cut denim, blue feels fresh, modern and endlessly wearable for an Australian winter.

The Power of Navy

Navy has the sophistication of black, but with a softness that flatters almost everyone. It works beautifully with denim, white, cream, camel and grey, making it one of the easiest colours to wear every day.

A navy jumper layered over a cotton blouse instantly feels polished. A navy jacket paired with jeans feels smart without looking overdressed. It is the kind of colour that quietly does all the work for you. It is classic, yet with the right pieces it is not boring.

Denim Is More Than Just Jeans

One thing I always notice in France is how denim is treated as a wardrobe essential rather than a casual afterthought.

A great pair of jeans can take you almost anywhere. Worn with a beautiful blouse and loafers, they feel refined enough for lunch. Paired with a knit and trainers, they become the perfect everyday uniform.

This season, I am particularly loving softer silhouettes. Wide-leg jeans, relaxed straight-leg styles and gently flared cuts feel modern while remaining timeless. They create movement, comfort and elegance in a way that skinny jeans never quite could.

The French Blouse Effect

Blue isn't limited to denim. Some of my favourite pieces in this collection are the beautiful blue blouses that bring softness and femininity to winter dressing.

Whether it's a pale chambray shirt, a delicate floral print or a rich navy blouse with beautiful detailing, blue has a way of feeling elegant without ever appearing too formal.

One of my favourite styling formulas is a blue blouse paired with denim in a slightly different shade. The subtle contrast creates depth and interest while remaining incredibly easy to wear.

Layering Shades of Blue

One of the easiest ways to elevate an outfit this winter is by layering different shades of blue together.

A chambray blouse under a navy knit. A striped top beneath a denim jacket. A soft blue shirt paired with dark indigo jeans.

French women rarely match colours perfectly. Instead, they combine tones from the same family to create outfits that feel relaxed and effortless.

Blue is particularly forgiving because there are so many beautiful shades to play with.

Accessories That Complete the Look

Blue also provides the perfect backdrop for accessories.

Gold jewellery feels especially beautiful against navy knitwear, while tan belts and leather handbags add warmth and contrast to denim and softer blue tones.

A silk scarf featuring touches of blue, cream and camel can instantly bring an outfit together without feeling overly styled.

My Winter Uniform

As I prepare for the cooler months ahead, I find myself returning to the same formula again and again: a blue blouse, a great pair of jeans, a cosy knit and a few carefully chosen accessories.

It is comfortable enough for everyday life, polished enough for lunch with friends and versatile enough to take me from morning to evening without much thought.

Perhaps that's why blue remains such a constant at Volange. No matter the season or the trends of the moment, I always find myself drawn back to it.

À bientôt,

Prune
